| The AOMSI is a registered organization committed to promoting excellence in academic and clinical standards in this unique specialty dealing with the surgical treatment of diseases and disorders of the Oral and Maxillofacial region.The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was started in 1969 under the banner of Association of Oral Surgeons of India (AOSI). Its founders included the late Dr MSN Ginwalla, Dr C.K. Dhanasekharan, Late Dr C.G. Raju, Late Dr.K. Ramachandran, Late Dr S.S. Khera and Dr A.P. Chitre. | |
| The AOMSI is a registered organization and admits qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as Life or Annual members. The Association is committed to the promotion of the specialty through its scientific deliberations and social causes. The Journal is called 'The Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery' and is the official publication of the Association. It is published four times a year from its office in Madurai. The Association has two major conventions every year. The Annual Conference is held in November / December in pre-determined venues around the country. The Mid-Term Conference is focussed on post graduate students and trainees and is a two day conference held in June / July every year. In addition, the AOMSI officially participates in Continuing Education programmes held by its members in different parts of the country. The Executive Committee meets three or four times every year and is the official decision making body. The AOMSI has five official state chapters in Tamilnadu, Kerala, New Delhi, West Bengal and Karnataka. These state chapters are affiliated to the AOMSI and are constitutionally recognised by Charter. The AOMSI has recently promoted an Independent Board to promote excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery by conducting examinations and awarding Board Certification. The primary collegium of senior surgeons was selected through a point system and were officially elected at a convocation held in November 2005 at Jaipur. Associate membership is open to any medical or dental professional with an interest in maxillofacial surgery. Associate members have all privileges except voting rights at the AGM. | |
